The i-kon™ System is comprised of an evolving set of hardware and software elements. Currently, the main components are:

• i-kon™ Detonators (digital electronic, programmable)
• i-kon™ Logger (surface hardware — hand held control equipment for system testing and in-hole delay assignment
• i-kon™ Blasters 400 & 1600S (surface hardware — provide detonator calibration, delay programming, system testing, blasting power supply, and blasting signal transmission)
• Loggers and Blasters use 2-way communication with the Detonators
• SHOTPlus®-i blast design software
• i-kon™ surface Harness Wire and Sling Bag return to Top

1.2 How reliable is the i-kon™ System?

Very reliable. The i-kon™ System is the result of the application of years of Orica's real-life mining experience, plus extensive leading-edge engineering & manufacturing skills. This combination has produced a compact, user-intuitive system, which has proven very reliable and successful in a multitude of customer evaluations around the world. Further, Orica has undertaken a comprehensive, ongoing development program for the i-kon™ System, which will continue to focus on the ability to withstand tough mining environments and provide consistent, reliable results. It will also easily integrate into customer’s systems and the technology infrastructures of their sites. return to Top

1.3 What are the costs of the i-kon™

Prices for the i-kon™ System are available exclusively through regional Orica representatives as highlighed in the "Contact Us" section of the www.i-konsystem.com website. return to Top

1.4 How can an evaluation be set up at my site?

Customer evaluations of the i-kon™ System are ongoing in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Europe and Latin America, and evaluations at new sites in all these regions are possible. Confirmation of evaluations and co-ordination of benefits measurement is arranged through the local Orica representatives highlighted in the "Contact Us" section of the website. Please contact them. return to Top

1.5 How well does the i-kon™ System work?

Extensive global applications of the i-kon™ System have demonstrated unsurpassed performance and benefits delivery in surface metal mining, quarrying & construction, demolition, open cast coal, as well as varied underground operations. return to Top

1.6 What makes i-kon™ Detonators better than standard delay detonators?

The i-kon™ Detonator's primary advantages over standard (pyrotechnic) delay detonators are:

• Programmable: 0 - 15,000 ms delay range, in 1 ms increments
• Precise timing: for 0 -1300 ms delays: less than +/- 0.13 ms variation and for 1301 to 15,000 ms delays: less than +/- 0.01% variation
• Programmability: highly flexible for variable and complex applications. They can be programmed in the hole immediately before firing, and re-programming, if necessary, is easy and convenient. They can also be programmed on PC using a dedicated blast design program and conveniently downloaded to a Logger for fast and accurate bench logging, a real time saver
• A single Detonator assembly (with 6 standard lengths) reduces inventory & costs
• In-hole functionality verification prior to initiation, via 2-way communication
• High dynamic shock resistance return to Top

1.7 How many blasts have been fired with the i-kon™ System?

Orica has fired many hundreds of thousands of detonators and over 10,000 blasts with various versions of the i-kon™ System in nations around the world. Customers have indicated that these blasts have met, and in many cases exceeded their highest expectations. Please refer to the "Blast Accumulator" section of the website to see the latest global blast total and the various countries in which the System has been used around the world. return to Top

1.8 What is the maximum blast size that can be shot by the i-kon™ System?

The i-kon™ System is capable of firing up to 3200 detonators per blast through the use of a slaved format of 2 x i-kon™ Blaster 1600S units, coupled with 2 x 8 i-kon™ Loggers (200 detonators each). A Blaster 1600S unit can be used alone to fire 1600 detonators, and the compact and convenient Blaster 400 is preferred for blasts up to 400 detonators. return to Top

1.9 What delays are available from the i-kon™ System?

The i-kon™ System can be programmed in 1 millisecond increments, from 0 milliseconds up to a maximum of 15,000 milliseconds (i.e. 15,001 possible delays). return to Top
